From established hiking, biking and horse trails you can see only a glimpse of this vast 5400 sq km Park. Such wilderness is a haven for moose, black and grizzly bears, wolves, cougars, lynx and the elusive bobcat and wolverine. It is a land of forests, mountains, rivers and lakes. The woodlands are a thick mixture of deciduous and coniferous species where some 500 year old Western Red Cedars measuring 5 m in diameter can still be found. The spring thaw in the alpine tundra exposes an impressive display of wildflowers lasting until late August. This carpet of color is ever changing as the first blooms are surrendered to the soil and the next blossoms are given their season. High mountains give way to deep narrow gorges and long ago volcanic activity within the park has produced rare geological features and formations.Large ice fields serve as a source for glacial streams and lakes where canoeists paddle the gentle waters of the lakes, and whitewater rafters anticipate the next river rapids. Waterfalls within the park are plentiful. The most notable; Spahats, Dawson and Helmcken Falls are all easily accessible. Helmcken Falls the grandest of all, cascades 145 m into the Clearwater River canyon below. It is the 4th highest waterfall in Canada.
