Sea kayaking in Baja California, Mexico

Isla del Carmen is an idyllic kayaking destination to the North of La Paz bay, the original colonial city of Baja California. Set in the turquoise waters of the Sea of Cortez, the small islets surrounding the main island are home to numerous seabirds, marine mammals such as dolphins and sea lions and a host of tropical fish, sea turtles and other marine life.

8 days / 7 nights  ~  from/to Loreto, Baja California / Mexico

On shore a lush desert landscape yields an abundance of interesting flora including over ten species of cactus and a number of other superbly adapted trees and shrubs. Paddling between the small islets provides endless routes to explore.


Hightlights

The Sea of Cortez, a narrow body of water, separating the Baja California Peninsula from the Mexican Mainland, offers a rich and unique ecosystem. While it holds many migratory species such as Humpback whales, California Gray Whales, Manta rays, Leatherback Sea Turtles and a myriad of fish, it's more than 900 islands are also home to thousands of seabirds. Blue whales and Fin whales are also frequently seen!



What's involved

The itinerary offers excellent sea kayaking, snorkeling and wildlife watching. While off the water, activities will include hiking and walking the desert and finding interesting photographic features.

Day 1


 
  • Arrive at Loreto Airport. Meet & greet by representative, afternoon at leisure. Pre-trip meeting at the hotel later in the evening (transfer and room included).

Day 2 L / D
  • After breakfast van transport to launch site. After safety and paddling instructions, paddle to first camp site.
  • accommodation: wilderness camping
Days 3 - 6


B / L / D
  • We spend our days kayaking and exploring the beautiful Islas Danzante and Carmen, located in the Bahia Loreto National Marine Park. Our leisurely pace will allow for plenty of time to explore, snorkel, swim or just relax.

Over all group ability, weather, tides and currents are taken into consideration while safety is top priority, followed by maximizing wildlife viewings!
Day 7 B / L
  • Break camp, drive back to Loreto. Check into hotel.
  • accommodation: hotel in Loreto
Day 8  
  • Transfer on your own to the airport (not included).
